All the Money in the World
Duta Rating (4/5)
Trailer:
Director: Ridley Scott
There was so much drama around the film when director Ridley Scott decided to bump up Christopher Plummer in the key role of the insanely rich businessman J. Paul Getty, instead of Kevin Spacey who has been making all the wrong headlines. Ironically, the hurried reshoot of the film with Plummer makes no dent, and it is Plummer's performance that shines through the film.
Getty's grandson is kidnapped and unless he meets the high demands of the kidnappers, his grandson pays the price with his life. Getty, is “not just the richest man in the world, but the richest man in the history of the world,” yet it's a struggle between love and money for him. His daughter (Michelle Williams) must convince him to part with his money and Getty's advisor Mark Wahlberg becomes her unlikely ally.Perhaps why this film is a winner is because it's not a predictive thriller, instead becomes a psychological study into a powerful man with a heart that is stone-cold. Michelle Williams kicks up a storm, trying to save her son, and Charlie Plummer (no relation to Christopher) is impressive, unlike Wahlberg, who seems unnecessary.
Hats off to Scott and Plummer for their eleventh hour change-up, it truly paid off. Will the film sweep all the awards in the world? We'll find out soon enough.
Pitch Perfect 3
Duta Rating (2/5)
Trailer:
Director: Trish Sie
The group Barden Bellas have graduated but are learning that they have limited career options where they can make music with their mouth. They come together one last time for a USO (United Stated Organisation) tour in the final film of the acapella trilogy.
The vivacious Anna Kendrick who made a powerful impact in the first two films zombies through in this one. Many unconvincing, disconnected plotlines are presented for no apparent reason. Fat Amy must decide if she can trust her formerly drug dealer dad; Ruby Rose has a band named Evermoist(!); and there's a contest going on, seemingly irrelevant to anything else around and involving DJ Khaled as the prize.
There are a few quirky one liners to enjoy and good music to relish, but you'll be glad this is the Barden Bellas' swan song.
