A bridge on Kitale-Lodwar road in Turkana county has been damaged again less than two weeks after KeNHA repaired it. Kainuk bridge was repaired on October 25 after it was destroyed by floodwaters following heavy rains in the region.
Residents have asked the highways authority to construct a long-lasting bridge to stabilise transport, which has been paralysed. "KeNHA should not hurry to repair the bridge as it did. Let them take their time and make sure we have a bridge that lasts," Patrick Lokapaa said.
Kenya National Highways Authority has advised the public not to use Kitale-Lodwar road. In a statement on Monday, communication assistant director Charles Njogu said road users should be cautious on the Kitale-Lokichar-Lodwar-Nadapar corridor, which is impassable.
